The Iowa Cubs are Just as Fun as a MLB Team
The Iowa Cubs are a minor league baseball team. They play their home games at Principal Park in Des Moines since 2004. Before that they played their home games at Sec Taylor stadium. The mascot of the team is a cubbie bear. The club is owned by Raccoon Baseball inc and the managed by Marty Pevey. The general manager is Sam Bernabe.
The Iowa Cubs is affiliated with the Chicago Cubs since 1981 and before that it was affiliated with the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros and Oakland Athletics. The Iowa Cubs was founded back in 1969.
The team adopted the name “Cubs” in 1982 to match that of the affiliated team. However to avoid confusion the team is often shortened as I- Cubs. Over the years many notable players have played for the I-cubs including; Kerry Wood, Mark Grace, Corey Patterson, Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior, Sam Fuld, Tuffy Rhodes, Bruce Kimm, Shawon Dunston and Greg Maddux amongst many others.
The club has not only hosted great players in the past it still continues to be a hub of great talent. Another notable player with the Iowa Cubs is Chris Coghlan. Coghlan is an outfielder with a lot of experience and some awards to his name. He won the 2009 national league rookie of the year award. He has 800 big league games under his belt and has won World Series ring.
However he says that playing for the Iowa Cubs for him is a delight and he is pushed to perform better as he feels at home in the organization even though he is a veteran in the club due to his experience. Iowa Cubs wins
The Cubs have so many wins to their name. They have been labelled the Triple A champions severally in 1969-75, 83, 88 – 91, 98 – 2000 and from 2006 to presently. They have also been league champions since 1969. They have also lifted the division championship trophies for many years in; 1970 – 83, 85 – 86, 88 – 93 and 1996 til presently.
These wins most consecutively also serve to show you that Iowa Cubs is a serious team with a lot of talent and committed players.
Going forward the Iowa Cubs doesn’t seem to relent on the quality of players that are signed to the team. The roster is full of highly talented and sought after players. The coaches are also highly experienced and talented to lead the team to greatness.
